The Lake Erie Sports Alliance (LESA) is committed to increasing accessibility and participation in youth hockey.

Recognizing the financial barriers associated with playing the goaltender position—including higher equipment costs and specialized training—we have established the LESA Goalie Scholarship.

This initiative aims to remove financial obstacles, ensuring that all young athletes interested in playing goalie have the opportunity to do so.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the LESA Goalie Scholarship, applicants must:

Age & Program Level – Be a registered participant in an LESA-supported hockey program at LECOM Sports Park.
Commitment to the Position – Show genuine interest and commitment to playing as a full-time or primary goaltender for the season.
Developmental Goals – Be willing to participate in goalie-specific training programs, as applicable.

The LESA Goalie Scholarship will provide:

1. LECOM Sports Park Tuition Coverage – The LESA Goalie Scholarship will cover 50% of the LECOM Sports Park season fees* for goalies. Additional costs, such as extra tournament fees, as well as spring and summer season fees, are not included..

2. Loaner Equipment Access – Providing goalie gear for those who may not have access to their own equipment, subject to a financial need request.

*Need-based financial assistance may be requested to cover the remainder of fees. Please reach out via our scholarship request form under the scholarship tab.

Why This Matters

Encouraging Participation – Many young athletes hesitate to become goalies due to the cost of equipment and training. This program ensures financial barriers do not prevent passionate players from joining.
Strengthening Team Development – Goaltenders are essential for team formation and game play. Providing scholarships encourages more players to explore the position.
Growing the Game Inclusively – LESA’s mission is to make hockey more accessible to all. Supporting goalies is a strategic step toward breaking down economic barriers in the sport.
