Coach Chris Hartsburg brings a rich history of hockey experience to his role as the Chief Executive Officer of Hockey Operations and Coaching Development at LECOM Sports Park. A Minnesota native, Hartsburg's journey through hockey has been marked by significant achievements both as a player and a coach. His playing career was distinguished by a full NCAA Div 1 scholarship to Colorado College, where he excelled as a true freshman, contributing to the team's national ranking. His talent and hard work were recognized early when he was drafted by the New Jersey Devils, leading to a professional career in the AHL with the Albany River Rats, and later, championship success with the Colorado Eagles in the Central Hockey League.
Transitioning from player to coach, Hartsburg's impact on the sport continued to grow. He has been involved with numerous USA Hockey Selection camps and has represented Team USA as a coach on the international stage. His coaching career in the WHL, OHL, and USHL, culminating in a significant tenure as the Head Coach of the Erie Otters, has been highlighted by mentoring 20 NHL Draft Picks, 24 current and former NHL players, and 50 D1 Scholarship athletes. Coach Hartsburg's dedication to hockey, emphasis on skill development, and commitment to fostering young talent make him a pivotal figure in advancing the sport in Erie and beyond.
Tyler Travis is the founder and director of Erie Sports Now Fitness & Performance Center, known for his extensive experience in training a diverse array of athletes ranging from professionals to youths. Currently, he is marking his ninth season as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for both the men's and women's Ice Hockey teams at Merc
Tyler Travis is the founder and director of Erie Sports Now Fitness & Performance Center, known for his extensive experience in training a diverse array of athletes ranging from professionals to youths. Currently, he is marking his ninth season as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for both the men's and women's Ice Hockey teams at Mercyhurst University, in addition to his role as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the university's 23 sports teams.
Tyler has also played a pivotal role in the USA Hockey National Player Development summer camps in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2023, contributing his expertise in strength and conditioning. Born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Tyler's academic journey led him from obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree at Pennsylvania State University to earning his master's degree in exercise physiology from Minnesota State University at Mankato.
He holds certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, alongside his certification as an Exercise Physiologist from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Tyler is also recognized as a Certified EXOS Performance Specialist, a Functional Movement Screen Certified Specialist, and a Certified Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Tyler imparts his knowledge as an adjunct instructor for exercise science at Mercyhurst, specializing in crafting performance enhancement programs.
